Azerbaijani athlete Oleg Panyutin has today won the first gold medal at the 2011 IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch (New Zealand), the Azerbaijani National Paralympic Committee reported.
Panyutin scored 6.87 meters in the long jump.
Another Azerbaijani athlete Vladimir Zajats ranked the fourth with a score of 6.60 meters.
Huseyin Hasanov won a bronze medal with a score of 6.52 meters in the long jump finals.
Following the first day of the competition, the Azerbaijani team ranked the tenth with one gold and one bronze medal among 26 teams at the Paralympic World Championships in Athletics. The Chinese team with eight medals is in the first place.
