The text of the agreement between Kazakhstan and Luxembourg which will allow any European airline to fly between the two countries was reviewed and initialled in Brussels, according to press service of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan.
The statement noted that the document contains provisions designated to bring existing air services agreements between Kazakhstan and the EU Member States in line with the European Union legislation.
In 2002, the European Commission proposed Kazakhstan to amend the provisions of bilateral agreements with the EU Member States on the conditions of air carrier ownership and control over their activities towards liberalization.
"In contrast to the agreements that have been signed between Kazakhstan and the European countries earlier, this document complies with EU law," the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan, Azat Bekturov said. "The agreement will create the legal framework in order not only Luxembourg airlines but also any other European airline could fly to Kazakhstan."
He said that it certainly is a big step in the development of relations between Kazakhstan and the European Union.
At present, the parties are preparing to sign the draft agreement at the intergovernmental level.
In the case of signing the document, it is assumed that it will serve as a basis for siging into similar agreements with other EU countries and making amendments to the agreements in force.
