The volume of deposits in national currency, tenge, has increased by 34.9 percent in the first five months of 2016 and stood at 6.68 trillion tenges (336 tenges = $1) in Kazakhstan, said the country’s National Bank.
This is while the volume of deposits in tenge rose by 3.3 percent in the country in May.
The volume of deposits in foreign currency has dropped by 10.9 percent since early 2016 and stood at around 9.82 trillion tenges. This is while there was a 0.4 percent decrease in a month.
The share of deposits in tenge has increased from 31 percent in early 2016 and 39.6 percent in April to 40.5 percent in May.
The volume of deposits of legal entities in national currency has increased by 1.3 percent in May (31.6 percent increase since early 2016) and stood at 4.63 trillion tenges. This is while the volume of legal entities’ deposits in foreign currency has dropped by 2.1 percent (12.4 percent decrease since early 2016) and stood at 4.96 trillion tenges.
The volume of deposits of individuals in national currency has increased by 8.1 percent in May 2016 (43.2 percent increase since early 2016) and stood at 2.05 trillion tenges. This is while the volume of individuals’ deposits in foreign currency has increased by 1.3 percent (9.3 percent decrease since early 2016) and stood at 4.86 trillion tenges.
In total, the volume of residents’ deposits in Kazakhstan’s depository institutions has increased by 1 percent in May and stood at 16.5 trillion tenges. There has been a 3.3 percent growth since early 2016.
The volume of deposits of legal entities has dropped by 0.5 percent in May and stood at 9.59 trillion tenges (4.5 percent increase since early 2016). This is while the volume of individuals’ deposits has increased by 3.2 percent and stood at 6.91 trillion tenges (1.7 percent increase since early 2016).
The weighted average rate of return on time deposits of non-banking legal entities in national currency stood at 13 percent, while it was 12.3 percent for deposits of individuals.
