Production and exports of wheat are expected to decline in Kazakhstan in 2018-2019, according to the report of the Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) and the US Department of Agriculture.
The production of wheat in Kazakhstan during the reporting period is expected to reach 14 million tons, which is about 800,000 tons less than in 2017-2018.
Moreover, this year wheat crops have greatly decreased in Kazakhstan not only due to the ongoing state policy on crop diversification, but also due to cold spring.
Export of wheat in 2018-2019 is projected at the level of eight million tons, the report said.
The main buyers of Kazakhstan’s wheat are Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. As of March 2018, about 78 percent of the total exports accounted for these two countries.
The main buyers of durum wheat are Italy (51 percent), Russia – 25 percent, Turkey - eight percent and Tunisia - five percent.
