One kilogram of Iranian saffron is sold at 70,000 liras (app. $12,500), Trend reports referring to DHA.
Due to the sheer difficulty of its cultivation and 170,000 flowers yielding just 1 kg of the product, saffron – known to Iranians as the “red gold” – is a very costly product.
The price of 1 kg of saffron in Iran is currently around 60 million rials (app. $1,400), with its maximum price being 120-130 million rials (app. $2,800-3,000).
Saffron is said to be used as a remedy for many illnesses and conditions, including cancer.
