ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 19. The construction of a gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China has played an important role in creating a new vision of cooperation in the energy sector, said Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Trend reports.

He stated this at a high-level conference on interconnectedness in Beijing within the framework of the Third International Forum "One Belt, One Road".

According to him, the commissioning of the gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China in 2009 marked the beginning of the formation of a new architecture of relations in the energy sector, and also opened up prospects for connecting other states to the project on a mutually beneficial and equal basis.

At the same time, he spoke about plans to expand the geography and volume of supplies of Turkmen gas and electricity, noting the construction of new power transmission lines and fiber-optic communications to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Turkmenistan is actively developing its energy sector, focusing on diversifying and expanding the geography of natural gas and electricity supplies. The country is building new gas pipelines and power plants, developing cooperation with regional and global partners, and introducing modern technologies in the production and transmission of energy in order to ensure a stable and sustainable energy supply both inside and outside the country.
