Georgian leading commercial banks TBC Bank, Bank of Georgia and Liberty Bank will accept postponed payment on loans for three months, Trend reports referring to Georgian media.
According to the banks, the decision has been made to prevent people gathering in bank branches and thus to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
TBC Bank offers consumers to postpone paying not only interest rate on loans, but also the loan principal. The decision is made for all physical individuals, micro, small and medium size business and also for large business which are involved in tourism, the food industry or in an industry which is related to the gathering of many people.
Bank of Georgia and Liberty Bank say the decision applies only to the loans of physical individuals.
According to official figures, the tourism sector of Georgia in February this year suffered losses of 30 million lari ($10.5 million) due to the decrease in the number of visits by foreigners.
Against the backdrop of the outbreak of the coronavirus, as well as the oil crisis in the world, the national currency of Georgia began to fall rapidly.
As of today, Georgia has 25 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
Amid the coronavirus outbreak, Georgia has suspended direct flights with China, Iran and Italy, which are currently the largest centers of the outbreak.
