ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, November 17. The number of bank cards issued in Turkmenistan by the beginning of November this year reached 5.46 million, showing an increase compared to the same month in 2022 of 5.35 million units, Trend reports.

According to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat holds the highest card count at 1.86 million, followed closely by Mary (976,850 cards) and the Lebap (896,921 cards) regions.

Dayhanbank State Commercial Bank leads with 1.92 million cards, followed by Turkmenistan State Commercial Bank with over 1.07 million cards, and Halkbank Joint-Stock Commercial Bank with 649,279 cards.

Turkmenistan's bank card issue rate has more than doubled in the last four years, indicating a substantial rise in the financial sector.

The overall population reached 5.17 million by the end of 2022, an 8.3 percent increase from the end of 2021.

This expansion is due to the introduction of mobile apps, increasing transaction activity, and different payment options via bank terminals, reflecting the country's consistent expansion of the financial landscape.
