ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 8. In May 2025, the
volume of transactions using payment cards issued by Kazakhstani
emitters reached a record 18.1 trillion tenge (about $34.4
billion), of which 15.7 trillion tenge (about $29.8 billion) were
non-cash payments, which is 18.7 percent more than in May 2024.
The data obtained by Trend from the country's National Bank indicates that
the number of cashless transactions grew to 1.2 billion, which is
11.9 percent higher than the previous year. At the same time, cash
withdrawal transactions decreased in number by 0.7 percent, but
increased in volume by 11.4 percent, reaching 2.3 trillion tenge
(around $4.4 billion). This indicates that Kazakhstani residents
are increasingly using cards for everyday payments, preferring
electronic transactions over cash.
The majority of cashless transactions are made via the Internet and
mobile banking - 81.1 percent by number of transactions and 90.3
percent by volume. This confirms the trend of active digitalization
of financial services in Kazakhstan and growing trust in online
services.
