Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 October / Trend corr. S.Babayeva/ Catel, the first CDMA operator in Azerbaijan, announced change of its Director General on 3 October. Togrul Hajizade has replaced Sadig Humbatov, who has been heading Catel since its establishment in 1997.
Humbatov voluntarily left the position. Hajizade had been working in Catel previously.
Catel is one of the first Azerbaijan-US joint ventures, established by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Communications & Information Technologies and US OMSL (Omni-Metromedia-Caspian Ltd.). The company was completely privatized at the beginning of 2008.
Catel JV was established in 1997 and was officially opened in 1999. Catel, one of local mobile communication operators, serves wireless FH-CDMA services for wireless telephone subscribers and 3G CDMA for mobile communication subscribers.
In April, 2007, Catel introduced new FONEX brand to the market to serve cellular communication through CDMA2000.
