ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 25. A total of 14,762 foreign citizens are actively engaged in various work activities in Kazakhstan as of July 1, 2023, Trend reports.
According to the country's Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, among the work permits issued to attract foreign labor, the following categories were recorded: 537 permits for executives and their deputies (first category); 2,751 permits for managers of structural units (second category).
The majority of foreign workers fall under the third category (specialists) and the fourth category (skilled workers): 6,598 and 833 individuals, respectively. Additionally, 1,940 individuals were granted seasonal work permits, while 2,103 employees were transferred as part of corporate arrangements.
In terms of economic activities, the largest numbers of foreign workers are employed in the following sectors: construction: 5,204 individuals (35 percent); agriculture, forestry, and fishing: 1,895 individuals (13 percent); mining and quarrying: 1,346 individuals (9 percent); manufacturing: 1,128 individuals (7 percent); and professional, scientific, and technical activities: 850 individuals (6 percent).
The primary countries of origin for labor migrants include China with 3,729 individuals (25 percent), Uzbekistan with 1,967 individuals (13 percent), India with 1,461 individuals (10 percent), and Türkiye with 1,454 individuals (10 percent).
