BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 7. The volume of pistachios grown in Iran this year has increased by 15 percent compared to last year, a representative of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Dariush Salimpour said, Trend reports.

According to him, Iran's orchards have yielded a whopping 300,000 tons of pistachios this year.

Salimpour pointed out that pistachios are grown in Iran primarily in Kerman, South Khorasan, Seemnan, and Central provinces.

The official emphasized that half of the pistachios harvested in the country are consumed domestically. Half of them are exported to other countries. Meanwhile, among the agricultural products exported by Iran, pistachios are the most exported agricultural product in terms of value.

Iran exported 2.65 million tons of agricultural products worth $1.5 billion during five months. Iran's agricultural exports increased by 33 percent in value and 22 percent in weight compared to the same period last year.

To note, according to statistics from the Statistical Center of the European Commission (Eurostat), in 2023, Germany imported $49 million worth of pistachios from Iran, Italy imported $7 million worth, and Spain imported $5 million worth.
