BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 4. The number of pistachios harvested from orchards in Tehran Province, located in northern Iran, increased by 300 tons from August 22 through October 21 compared to the same period last year, Director of the Agricultural Department of Tehran Province Jebraeel Baradari said, Trend reports.
According to him, about 10,600 tons of pistachios were harvested from the orchards of Tehran province during the mentioned period.
Baradari added that out of 11,952 ha of pistachio orchards, 7,056 ha were productive, and an average of 1.5 tons of pistachios were harvested from each ha.
The official noted that 90 percent of Tehran's pistachio orchards are irrigated with new irrigation methods, which has led to an increase in yields.
He stated that most pistachios were harvested from pistachio orchards in Varamin, Rey, Malard, and Pakdasht districts.
Meanwhile, Iran's Ministry of Agriculture announced that about 300,000 tons of pistachios will be harvested in Iran during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025).
To note, the area of Iran's pistachio groves is 650,000 ha. A total of 550,000 ha of these orchards are fertile.
