Residents in Iran's Ahar and Heris regions aren't able to return the loans given to them to restore and build houses after an earthquake in Aug. 11, 2012, said Abbas Fallahi-Babajan, who represents these two regions in parliament.
He also said the time has come for those regions' populations to pay back the loans.
Fallahi-Babajan added that either the timeframe for returning these loans should be extended, or the loans must be remitted altogether.
Iran's north-western part was hit by an earthquake measuring 6.2 on Richter scale on Aug. 11, 2012.
The earthquake killed 306 people, and injured about 3,000, while 115 villages were destroyed either completely or partially as a result of aftershocks.
Iran's government allocated $49 million for restoration and construction of houses affected by the quake.
In 2012, the government granted these funds to the earthquake victims in the form of loans on condition of their return in three years.
