An accident put paid to the romantic intentions of a teenager who scaled a lamppost in a order to reach the bedroom of his 16-year-old girlfriend, police in the west German city of Cologne said Friday, dpa reported.
The youth, aged 18, ended up in hospital with serious injuries after stepping on the plastic canopy above the house entrance, which gave way under his weight and sent him plunging to the pavement.
"The young man could have avoided such a risky undertaking if he had been aware his 'Julia' was not at home on the fateful night," according to a police statement.
