The European Court on Human Rights is speaking with the Azerbaijani government about 44 lawsuits.
The lawsuits are connected with violations of various articles of the European Convention on Protecting Human Rights and Freedoms. Most of the complaints concern: Article 3 on prohibiting torture; Article 6 on the right to a fair juridical investigation; Article 10 on the freedom of expression; Article 11 on the freedom of assembly and unification; Article 13 on the right to useful juridical means of defense; Article 14 on prohibiting discrimination; and Paragraph 1 of Protocol 1 on protecting property.
Sixteen complaints are under review for violations of Paragraph 3 of Protocol 1 on the right to free and fair elections during the 2005 parliamentary election.
Appeals have been made connected to violations of: Article 5 on the right to freedom and inviolability; Article 7 on illegal punishment; Article 8 on the right to a private and family life; Article 9 on the freedom of thought, conscience and religion; Paragraph 2 of Protocol 1 on the right to education; Paragraph 2 of Protocol 7 on the right to appeal a court verdict; and Paragraph 4 of Protocol 7 on the right not to be sentenced and punished twice.
The lawsuits also include the complaints of two Armenian citizens, S. Arakelyan and M. Sargsyan.
The European Court on Human Rights has passed 16 verdicts on Azerbaijan.
