BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 14. The population of Albania on January 1, 2025, is 2,363,314 inhabitants, decreasing by 1.2 percent compared to January 1, 2024.
Data obtained by Trend from the country's Institute of Statistics show that the population decline is the result of two main demographic components: Natural increase, which in 2024 was positive: +1,208 more people born than died; Net migration, which remained negative: -28,836 people.
The sex ratio at birth increased from 106.8 in 2023 to 107.8 in 2024.
Population estimates on January 1, 2025, show that only Tirana prefecture recorded an increase in population, compared to the previous year, by 0.2 percent. The largest population decreases were recorded in the prefectures of Shkoder (-2.5 percent) and Kukes (-2.3 percent).
On January 1, 2025, Tirana accounts for about 32.2 percent of the total population, continuing to be the most populated prefecture in the country, followed by Fier and Elbasan prefectures, with 9.9 percent and 9.6 percent, respectively.
