Revenues of second-tier banks (STBs) of Kazakhstan amounted to 10.05 trillion tenge in January-April 2018, increasing by 1.2 percent compared to the same period of 2017 (9.94 trillion tenge), Kazakh media outlets reported.
Kazakh banks earn on two main income items - incomes not related to remuneration (9.34 trillion tenge in January-April 2018) and earnings related to remuneration (714.3 billion tenge in January-April 2018).
In 2017, the income of Kazakh STBs slowed down for the first time in the last four years, amounting to 31.1 trillion tenge (for comparison, in 2016 it was 43.3 trillion tenge). In 2012-2017, the revenues of Kazakhstan’s banking sector increased sixfold.
The list of top banks in terms of earnings includes Halyk Bank with 93.1 billion tenge (double growth year-over-year), Qazkom with 43.1 billion tenge (an increase of 2.4 times year-over-year), Kaspi Bank with 32.3 billion tenge (a threefold increase year-over-year), Sberbank with 25.9 billion tenge (a fivefold increase year-over-year) and Bank RBK with 22 billion tenge (an increase of 7.5 times year-over-year). These banks earned 76.2 percent of the total profit of the banking sector, which amounts to 216.4 billion tenge.
Loss was recorded by only three banks, which totaled 3.2 billion tenge.
The efficiency of Kazakhstan’s banking sector in January-April 2018 in the form of return on assets (ROA) increased 2.5 times to 1.19 percent (a year earlier - 0.47 percent).
