Georgia intends to cooperate with Azerbaijan in food safety, agriculture

Georgia is interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of agriculture, said Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, Trend reports with reference to the ministry.

He made the remark at a meeting with a delegation of the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan (AFSA), headed by Chairman Goshgar Tahmazli.

According to Davitashvili, the visit of the AFSA delegation to Georgia will further expand bilateral cooperation and will be mutually beneficial for both sides.

The meeting was also attended by Head of National Food Agency Zurab Chekurashvili and representatives of relevant departments.

Davitashvili informed the Azerbaijani side about the activities of the National Food Agency, the work carried out in the country to provide the population with safe food and agricultural products, and documents signed with the European Union in this area. The minister expressed interested in cooperation with AFSA.

The parties discussed the possibility to conclude a bilateral agreement in the field of food safety, and prospects for cooperation in veterinary and phytosanitary areas, in phytosanitary monitoring in border areas, and electronic certification for pest control.

One of the main goals of the visit of the Azerbaijani delegation to Georgia was exchange of views and experience with Georgian colleagues and relevant state bodies in order to strengthen cooperation in the area of food safety.
