According to preliminary data of the State Statistics Committee, the volume of industrial production in Uzbekistan increased by four percent in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019 and amounted to 82.2 trillion soum ($8.1 billion), Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.
The largest volume of industrial production in the period from January through March was ensured by enterprises of processing industry - 78.6 percent against 77.8 percent in the same period of 2019. In total, this segment grew by 8.9 percent to 64.7 trillion soum ($6.4 billion) during the reporting period.
The share of mining and quarrying enterprises in the total volume of industrial production decreased from 13.4 percent to 12 percent for the first three months of this year. In total, this segment decreased by 11.9 percent to 9.9 trillion soum ($985.5 million).
In 1Q2020, the share of enterprises of power, gas and steam supply, and air conditioning made up 8.7 percent against eight percent of the previous year, and the volume of production increased by 2.3 percent to 7.1 trillion soum ($706.8 million).
In particular, production of electric energy decreased by 0.3 percent to 16.8 billion kWh, thermal energy - by 0.6 percent to 10.1 million Gcal, underground coal gasification - by 3.2 percent to 82 million cubic meters, compared to the same period of 2019.
Production of consumer goods increased by 11.2 percent to 22.9 trillion soum ($2.2 billion) in the period from January through March 2020, and their share in the total structure of industrial production decreased from 28.5 to 27.9 percent.
At the same time, the share of non-food products in the total volume of consumer goods production decreased from 69 to 68 percent, and of food products increased from 31 to 32 percent respectively.
The volume of industrial production in Uzbekistan increased by 6.6 percent in 2019 compared to the previous year to 331 trillion soum ($32.9 billion) against 14.4 percent in 2018.
