Use of nanotechnology by the Azerbaijani state company SOCAR has allowed to increase oil production, a source in SOCAR told Trend.
The source said, nano-systems were introduced during the extraction of residual oil, against sand plugs and salt deposits, as well as during the isolation of layers from external waters.
"As a result, it was possible to achieve from 15 to 22 percent increase in oil production in those wells where the technology was used, and the overhaul period increased several times. From 2011 to the end of last year, as a result of the use of nano-systems, it was possible to produce 10,816 tons of oil," the source told Trend.
He noted that, in addition, it was possible to improve rheological parameters of drilling fluids by 25-30 percent and to successfully deal with accidents and difficulties in drilling wells.
"The use of nanostructured lightweight cement was particularly successful. Currently, SOCAR continues this work. The development of technology of production of nanotubes is underway, and it is planned to fabricate nanomaterials and to use them in the industry," said the source.
Earlier, SOCAR announced plans to increase oil production using nanotechnology, to increase the oil recovery rate and to develop new onshore fields.
SOCAR consists of offshore and onshore oil and gas production facilities - "Azneft" PO; chemical industry enterprises, united under "Azerikimya" Company; "Azerigaz" PO, engaged in distribution of produced gas in the Republic; oil and gas processing enterprises, service companies, and institutions engaged in geophysical and drilling operations.
