During the last 10 years, Iran has been striving to reduce its dependence on oil and as a result, this dependence decreased from 53 to 23 percent in 2014, which proves the increase in industrial activities in Iran, the deputy chairman of Iran's cooperation chamber and an official at Iran's agricultural committee, Arslan Qasimi said, ILNA reported.
Further, speaking on Iran's non-oil sector, Qasimi noted that 88 percent of Iran's water reserves are used in agriculture.
Qasimi stressed that water is of strategic importance for the region's countries and applied programs should be aimed at correct usage of resources. He went on to add that presently, in Iran, there are 25,000 cooperations, 20 national economic unions and over 22,000 companies are their members.
Qasimi also mentioned that last year Iran's agricultural production reached 120 million tons and encompassed various areas such as grains, poultry, fisheries, animal husbandry, etc.
"Iran's population is 80 million and the total population of the countries that surround Iran reaches 400 million and it means a promising market for investors," Qasimi added.
