Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy talks co-op with foreign companies

Any company that has experience in financing energy facilities and is able to provide competitive long-term prices for the sale of generated electricity can invest and work in Uzbekistan, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan told Trend in an interview.

"In order to improve efficiency of the fuel and energy complex of Uzbekistan, the Ministry holds several rounds of tenders each year. The first tender was held in 2019. In 2020, a tender for construction power plant with 200MW capacity, in Sherabad was launched together with the Asian Development Bank. The second stage, with two power plants (200MW each), was held in Kattakurgan and in Gallaral cities, jointly with the International Finance Corporation," press service representative added.

The ministry also noted that nowadays, the Ministry plans to sign an agreement with ACWA Power to purchase electricity within the framework of the project on construction, ownership and management of a 1500 MW plant near the existing Syrdarya TPP.

"The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan highly appreciates cooperation with ACWA Power. The company has a strong position in the energy sector of the Middle East and is well represented at the international level. Offers from ACWA Power are distinguished by their high competitiveness," said the representative.

The representative also noted that the wind farm project (will be implemented by Masdar company) in Navoi region is preliminary estimated at $400 million.
