BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 6. By the end of 2024, Azerbaijan will have announced the winner of its first open international tender for the building of a large-scale renewable energy source (RES) facility, the 100 MW Gobustan Solar Power Plant (SPP), an informed source told Trend.

The project is in the works with the backing of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), whose team paid a visit to the site of the future SPP (a whopping 300.77 ha land plot on the Absheron Peninsula) on September 5.

“Tender stages have been ongoing since spring 2024, with the most recent stage being the confirmation of the high qualification of companies, which is a prerequisite for their participation in the tender for the implementation of the Gobustan SPP project. This critical phase was successfully accomplished by August 2024 by eight companies. A winner will be chosen from the group at the conclusion of the year. The state tender commission will make the selection in the presence of EBRD experts,” the source noted.

Currently, the tender commission is going through the proposals of eight companies for the construction of the SPP with a fine-tooth comb.

To note, the building of this renewable energy project aligns with Azerbaijan's strategy to expand the share of renewable energy in the country's total power system to 30-33 percent by 2030..
