Azerbaijan, Baku, July 29 / Trend H. Valiyev /
ElmNet's data transfer speed exceeds 100 megabytes per second, Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences Institute of Information Technology Director Rasim Aliguliyev told Trend.
He said 2-3 megabytes per second fall to each institution of the Academy of Sciences. This is a rather a high figure, Aliguliyev added.
The academic network will work in three directions - the Institute of Geology, the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Cybernetics.
Each of the three segments unites other structures of the Academy of Sciences. There are 1,400 computers involved in the academic network. The network is designed to facilitate an information exchange with foreign scientific and educational networks, accumulate information resources and support the information environment among departments of the Academy of Sciences.
The project will promote the establishment of international ties among research institutions.
The institute has also developed a conceptual analysis to form an e-education network infrastructure. According to the plan, the network's infrastructure, material and technical base, and internal corporate infrastructure will be created until 2012.
