BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 31. Kyrgyzstan plans to import up to 2.2 million kWh of electricity this year, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan.
This became known during the meeting on the results of the work of the ministry in 2022 and work plans for 2023.
During the meeting, Deputy Chairman of Cabinet of Ministers Bakyt Torobaev instructed to provide energy companies with the necessary equipment, as well as to speed up the implementation of renewable energy projects.
Torobaev also mentioned that according to the decree of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov this year, it is necessary to build about 50 small hydropower plants.
Meanwhile, according to the Kyrgyz Electricity Settlement Center, the total volume of Kyrgyzstan's electricity imports amounted to 2.8 billion kWh in 2022. During the last year, the main electricity suppliers to Kyrgyzstan were Uzbekistan (1.3 billion kWh), Turkmenistan (813.4 million kWh), and Kazakhstan (700 million kWh).
