DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 19. Russia needs trade and logistics hubs on the territory of Tajikistan, the deputy transport minister of Russia Dmitry Zverev said at a round table on trade, economic, and investment cooperation between Russia and Tajikistan, which was held in Dushanbe as part of the VIII interparliamentary forum “Russia - Tajikistan: the potential of interregional cooperation," Trend reports.

“For the development of economic cooperation [...] we certainly need hubs on the territory of Tajikistan, warehouse complexes with class A and B+ warehouses, so that cargo can accumulate,” Zverev said.

He added that the volume of freight traffic by rail between Tajikistan and Russia increased by 29 percent in 2023 and remained at a similar level in the first eight months of 2024, which is a “good indicator.”

Zverev emphasized that the annual volume of road transport between the two countries is about 150,000 tons.
“On the one hand, this is stability. On the other hand, we see prospects for quite a big growth. For this purpose, there should be accumulating trade and logistics centers on the territory of Tajikistan, including together with our Russian entrepreneurs," he added.

To note, the trade turnover between Tajikistan and Russia for the period from January through August 2024 amounted to $1.27 billion, which is 14.3 percent more compared to the same period of 2023.
