Iran reveals volume of pistachio harvested in country

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 25. About 300,000 tons of pistachios are expected to be harvested in Iran during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), the representative of the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture Dariush Salimpour told reporters, Trend reports.

According to him, about 210,000 tons of pistachios to be harvested in the country are dry pistachios, and the rest (90,000 tons) are moist pistachios.

Salimpour stated that the area of pistachio orchards in the country is 650,000 ha. A total of 550,000 ha of these orchards are fertile.

The official noted that the harvesting of pistachios in the country started in early September. Pistachios will be harvested mainly in Kherman, Razavi Khorasan, Yazd, Semnan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Fars, South Khorasan, Central Qazvin, Qom, and Tehran provinces and will last until the end of October.

He added that 80,000 ha of the country's unproductive orchards are planned to be rehabilitated in the coming years.

Furthermore, during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), 200,000 tons of pistachios were cultivated in Iran.

To note, Iran cultivates more than 130 million tons of agricultural products annually.
