BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 14. Through optimization of energy consumption in Iran, it is possible to economize $30 billion a year, the Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Houshang Falahatian said at the III International Conference on Energy Efficiency and Consumption Optimization held in Tehran on October 14, Trend reports.
According to him, the country can save 1.2 million barrels of crude oil per day, if measured in crude oil, by optimizing energy consumption.
Falahatian added that two years ago (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023), Iran's annual energy consumption was 4.7 million barrels per day in terms of crude oil. Iran supplied 7.9 million barrels of crude oil energy for daily consumption. The petrochemical and industrial sectors (steel and other factories) ranked first in energy consumption, and apartments followed.
He stressed that the transportation and distribution of energy to thermal power plants, oil refineries, and gas processing plants wastes 18 percent of the energy available for consumption. The country's thermal power plants record huge energy losses during the production of electricity. However, by improving the efficiency of thermal power plants, energy savings of 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day can be achieved.
To note, the two-day international conference and exhibition on energy efficiency and consumption optimization in Tehran kicked off on October 14.
