Iran’s administration has removed ban on export of tea, the head of Iran Tea Organization, Habib Jahansaz, said.
Under the new regulation, ban will be implemented only for re-export of tea, Jahansaz said, Young Journalist Club reported on Aug. 28.
He further said that over 88,000 tons of tea, worth 180 billion rials have been purchased from Iranian farmers so far.
He added that the government has paid 66 percent of the farmers’ money and the rest will be cleared gradually.
He forecast that 110,000 tons of fresh tea leaves will be purchased from farmers in the current year.
Tea is cultivated in Iran’s northern provinces of Gilan and Mazandaran, where 50,000 families earn their living from tea farming on more than 25,000 hectares of fields.
About 95 percent of tea orchards in Iran are rain-fed.
About 110,000 tons of dried tea are consumed in Iran every year.
Iran imports tea from India, the UAE, Sri Lanka and Kenya.
