Olive production in Iran is estimated to reach over 90,000 tons of by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2019), the executor of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Olive Project said.
“Currently, 87,000 hectares of land are under olive cultivation in 26 provinces across Iran,” Rahmatollah Parichehr said recently, the official website of the ministry reported.
More than 90,000 tons of olive is expected to be produced by the end of the current year, he added.
Timely pruning and irrigation, proper methods for combating pests, and using highly mechanized systems in olive orchards will contribute to this rise, the official said.
Iran has around 84,000 hectares of olive orchards, which have created more than 300,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Iranian officials say that annual agricultural output stands at 120 million tons, valued at $80 million.
The figure includes 82 million tons of crops, 20 million tons of horticultural products, 14 million tons of livestock, and over one million tons of fishery products.
