BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. The foreign assets of the Central Bank of Iran decreased by 8.4 percent at the end of the 10th month of the last Iranian year (January 20, 2024) compared to the end of the same month of the previous year (January 20, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Central Bank said, Trend reports.

According to the statistics, at the end of the 10th month of the last Iranian year, the value of foreign assets of the Central Bank of Iran was about 6.76 quadrillion rials (about $161 billion). The figure was 7.4 quadrillion rials (about $176 billion) at the end of the same month last year.

Statistics indicate that at the end of the 10th month, the value of the Central Bank of Iran's total (domestic and foreign) assets amounted to 20 quadrillion rials (about $478 billion).

The value of the total assets of the Central Bank of Iran increased by 22.6 percent at the end of 10 months compared to the end of the same month of the previous year. The value of the CB's total assets stood at about 14.9 quadrillion rials (about $354 billion) at the end of the same month of the previous year.

To note, Iran was excluded from the SWIFT system in 2018 as the US imposed sanctions on Iran over the country's nuclear program and expanded the sanctions. The withdrawal of Iran from this system created serious problems for the country's work with global banks. It left Iranian banks' branches and real estate in many countries virtually unused.
