An Iranian deputy agricultural minister said more than 30,000 tons of breeder seeds are being produced inside the country annually.
Iranian seed production centers and institutes produce more than 30,000 tons of breeder seeds annually, Kazem Khavazi said on August 30, IRNA news agency reported.
He added that Iranian experts and researcher are working to improve seeds genetically and currently produce 100 percent of the country’s needed breeder seeds of wheat and barley.
Breeder Seed is the original source of all classes of certified seed. It is held, maintained, and controlled by the originating plant breeder, sponsoring plant breeder or institution, in such a way to maintain its genetic purity and identity.
Iranian officials say that annual agricultural output stands at 120 million tons, valued at $80 million.
The figure includes 82 million tons of crops, 20 million tons of horticultural products, 14 million tons of livestock, and over one million tons of fishery products.
