"These books are examined every year. Religious books brought by pilgrims are submitted to the State Committee and the Committee decides whether to import it or not after content of these books are studied," Ceyhun Mammadov, chief of Religious Examinations, Public Affairs and Analysis Department of the Committee, said to Trend .
In 2007, the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations examined 750 religious books and prevented dissemination and import of 140 books about religious intolerance and discrimination. The Committee has the list of prohibited books. The publication and sale of books about racial and religious discrimination and instigating religious trouble is prohibited.
About 6,000 quotas were allocated for Hajj pilgrimage from Azerbaijan in 2008. Part of the quota was not fulfilled. Part of pilgrims has already returned home.
Mammadov said some organizations and people attempt to bring prohibited books to the country especially during Hajj pilgrimage. "State Committee faces such cases during Hajj pilgrimage," he said.
He said books brought this year have not been introduced to the State Committee yet.
