The opening of new channels does not depend on the people's will, it is connected with the advertising market, Nushirevan Maharramli, chairman of the National Broadcasting Council of Azerbaijan (NBCA) believes.
"Positive change should occur in the advertising market for creating the conditions necessary for opening a new channel," Maharramli told Trend.
Eight republican, fourteen regional and thirteen cable television channels operate in Azerbaijan.
According to Maharramli, human capacity is also a prerequisite for opening a new channel. "If the situation with the advertising market, human potential and technological base changes, it will be possible to discuss this issue," Maharramli said.
According to him, they give explanations about the existing problems of people appealing to the Council on the opening of new channels.
Regarding opening new channels in the regions, Maharramli said that the factor of the advertising market plays also an important role here.
"The opening of television channels in Shirvan and Aran is also on the agenda. However, unfortunately, the opening new channels delays because of the situation with human potential and advertising market in the regions compared to Baku," he said.
