BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 29. Azerbaijan imported 356,140 tons of wheat from January through April 2023, which is 100,990 tons (or 32.79 percent) more in comparison with 2022, Trend reports.
According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, wheat imports exceeded $123.989 million in value terms (an increase of 17.78 percent over the year).
The share of wheat imports amounted to 2.34 percent of Azerbaijan's total imports during the reporting period.
Azerbaijani food imports increased in value terms from $44.311 million (or 6.3 percent) to $703.901 million from January through April 2023.
Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover from January through April 2023 increased by 12.73 percent (or $2 billion) compared to the same period in 2022 - from $15.8 billion to $17.8 billion.
According to the SCC, exports in the structure of foreign trade turnover accounted for $12.5 billion, which is $761.5 million, or 6.44 percent more compared to the same period last year. The share of exports in foreign trade turnover amounted to 70.37 percent against 74.53 percent a year earlier.
Azerbaijan's imports during the reporting period increased by $1.2 billion, or 31.12 percent, from $4 billion to about $5.2 billion. The share of imports in foreign trade turnover was 29.62 percent against 25.47 percent a year earlier.
The balance of foreign trade turnover, while remaining positive, decreased year-on-year by more than $495.8 million (or 6.37 percent) to $7.2 billion against $7.7 billion from January through April 2022.
