BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 19. Asian Development Bank's (ADB) plans to enhance healthcare education in Turkmenistan by establishing a cutting-edge nursing college in Ashgabat as part of the Improving Nursing Quality and Capacity Project, Artur Andrysiak, ADB's Country Director for Turkmenistan, told Trend.
“ADB is working with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry to prepare the Improving Nursing Quality and Capacity Project. This is an important project to help establish a state-of-the-art nursing college in Ashgabat,” he said, highlighting the project’s significance for enhancing healthcare standards in Turkmenistan.
According to the official, the Improving Nursing Quality and Capacity Project is a central component of ADB’s broader efforts to support human capital development in Turkmenistan.
“With this initiative, the bank is investing in the country’s health sector to improve access, quality, and the range of healthcare services. This includes reforms aimed at strengthening medical education and building human resources for health,” he said.
Additionally, the country manager highlighted that the bank is fostering international collaboration between universities and schools in the health and education sectors, enabling knowledge sharing and the development of skills.
“These efforts are aligned with Turkmenistan’s national economic strategy, focusing on integrating innovative technology and expertise into various sectors,” Andrysiak added.
ADB’s comprehensive approach includes supporting skills development, digitalization, and green transition to build a resilient and competitive economy. By investing in education and professional training, the bank aims to equip the workforce with the necessary skills to adapt to economic changes and challenges, thereby contributing to the country's long-term development goals.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is a key partner to Turkmenistan, supporting improvements in transport infrastructure, economic diversification, human capital, and climate action. As of December 31, 2023, ADB had committed $634 million through 14 public sector loans, grants, and technical assistance projects to Turkmenistan. The current sovereign portfolio includes a $500 million loan, with cumulative sovereign loan disbursements totaling $592.54 million.
