ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 19. The National Bank of Kazakhstan has published data on payment cards and electronic banking services as of March 1, 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from Kazakhstan’s National Bank indicates that the volume of transactions using payment cards issued by Kazakhstani issuers in February 2025 amounted to 15.4 trillion tenge ($29.26 billion), which is 21.4 percent more compared to the same period last year. The number of transactions also increased by 13.7 percent, reaching 1.0 billion operations.
“Debit cards remain the dominant type, accounting for 81.4 percent of the total number of cards in circulation. At the same time, the number of cash withdrawal transactions decreased by 5.8 percent, but the volume of these transactions grew by 7.7 percent,” noted the bank.
Card-based transactions are dynamically executed via digital banking platforms and mobile applications, in addition to point-of-sale terminals. Specifically, 79.8 percent of the aggregate volume of cashless transactions is executed in the digital realm.
