Data obtained by Trend from the country's National Statistics Committee shows that the gender distribution is 19.14 million men and 18.86 million women, meaning that the number of men exceeds the number of women by more than 273,000.
The average fertility rate in Uzbekistan stands at 3.5 children per woman, significantly above the global average of 2.2. Unlike global trends, this indicator has been steadily increasing since 2012, when it was 2.3 children per woman.
Uzbekistan has a rapidly growing, young population, with 36.8 million people as of January 2024, making it the most populous country in Central Asia. The demographic landscape is characterized by high birth and falling natural population growth rates, a youthful age structure, and a predominantly Muslim, ethnically Uzbek population. The country's demographic transition is in its third stage, with falling mortality rates and increasing life expectancy contributing to growth alongside the high birth rate.
