BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 11. Iran's import of products from Turkmenistan decreased by 59.4 percent in value and 56.7 percent in weight compared to the same period last year (from March 20 through August 21, 2024).
The data obtained by Trend from the Iranian Customs Administration shows that in the reporting period, Iran imported 2,370 tons of products from Turkmenistan worth $3.59 million against 5,180 tons worth $7.85 million a year before.
The imports included petroleum coke, cotton, fabric, and other products.
In five months of this year, Iran's non-oil trade turnover with Turkmenistan amounted to 665,000 tons worth approximately $257 million, growing by 26.6 percent in value and 17.3 percent in weight year-on-year.
To note, the data from the Iranian Customs Administration shows that during the five months of the current Iranian year, the non-oil imports amounted to 15.2 million tons worth $23 billion, down 16.3 percent in value and by 5.4 percent in weight compared to the same period last year.
Iran mainly focuses on importing essential products that the country needs and imposes certain restrictions on importing products similar to those produced in the country.
