Over 8600 requests worth some 2.4 billion dollars have been submitted to Iran's Forex centre so far, deputy head of the Iranian Trade Promotion Organisation (TPOI ) Kiumars Fathollah Kermanshashi said on Tuesday, the Mehr News Agency reported.
The new foreign exchange centre, which was officially inaugurated on September 24, allows importers of goods including truck tyres, construction equipment and synthetic fibres to buy dollars at a rate of two per cent cheaper than the street rate at any given time.
Until November 4, over 4000 requests worth some 1.3 billion dollars have been submitted at Iran's Forex centre, Arsalan Fathipour, chairman of the Majlis Economic Committee announced earlier.
Only 300 million dollars' worth of the requests are in the US dollar, the Fars News Agency quoted Fathipour as saying.
The U.S. dollar price was sold at a price of 24,925 rials at Iran's Forex centre on Tuesday.
The Euro was also presented at 31,725 rials, the Mehr News Agency reported.
The government maintains an official reference rate of 12,260 rials to the dollar, but only a limited amount of foreign exchange is available at this rate.
