Kazakhstan is negotiating acquisition of a stake in French atomic company Areva, French Ambassador to Astana Francis Etienne told Astana TV channel in an interview, Kazakh LS business website reported.
"Now we are going re-capitalize Areva and therefore we are looking for partners for long-term cooperation… A lot of negotiations are underway,” the ambassador said.
He noted that the negotiations with Kazakhstan have not yet been completed, adding that he does not know what share Kazakhstan is going to buy.
Earlier French online news website BFM Business, citing sources close to the group, reported that China National Nuclear Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Kazakhstan's Kazatomprom were each set to buy an 11 percent stake in Areva.
BFM said that the three foreign investors would inject 400 million euros each, that they would be able to choose board members, and that the French government's stake in Areva would be to 67 percent.
Areva is a French multinational group specializing in nuclear power and renewable energy headquartered in Paris.
