Due to the unstable situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic, some exporting companies are wary of exporting products from Georgia, Trend reports via Georgian media.

Kakha Shavadze, the founder of Adjara Keiding Group, said that he has not yet decided whether to accept tangerines from farmers for export.

“My company works for quality. We export various fruits to Russia, supply retail chains. This year, due to the pandemic, we sent an insignificant cargo, as we did not know when the borders would be closed or when a lockdown would be announced in some regions. In general, I did not take risks and worked very carefully. We sent only five trucks, which is very few. The tangerine season lasts from a month to one and a half, and preparation requires investment. And therefore, this year, most likely, I will not be engaged in the export of tangerine,” Shavadze said.

In 2019, the largest volumes of tangerines were exported to the following countries: Russia - 20,000 tons; Ukraine - 5,200 tons.
