About 400,000 tons of rapeseed are planned to be harvested from 223,000 hectares of land planted in the last autumn, Gholamhossein Khodraei, deputy executor for the plan on the oilseeds of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Trend reports citing the ministry.
The official stressed that about 40,000 hectares of land under rapeseed are dry-farming land, and the rest – irrigated land.
Khodraei added that about 74,000 hectares of land under rapeseed are in Khuzestan Province and about 60,000 hectares in Golestan Province.
“The farmers have signed a contract with 8 edible oil processing plants related to purchasing rapeseed from 60,000 hectares out of 223,000 hectares. According to the contract, rapeseed will cost 5-10 percent more than the previous price. These plants have provided farmers with 15-30 million rials (about $ 357-714) per hectare of land in order to support,” he said
The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram in the current planting year.
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by the Government Trade Corporation of Iran (GTC) under a guarantee in Iran.
Reportedly, 264,000 tons of rapeseed harvested in Iran in the last spring were purchased from farmers.
