China has increased pipeline gas import from the Central Asian countries, according to BP’s Statistical Review of World Energy 2017.
Gas supplies from Turkmenistan increased to 29.4 billion cubic meters (bcm) from 27.7 bcm, from Uzbekistan – to 4.3 bcm from 1.5bcm in 2016 compared to 2015.
Gas supplies from Kazakhstan remained unchanged at 0.4 bcm.
Moreover China imported 3.9 bcm of pipeline gas from Myanmar (unchanged from 2015) and 34.3 bcm of LNG. The main share of LNG supplies to China fell on Australia - 15.7 bcm.
Turkmenistan has the fourth largest proved gas reserves in the world (17.5 trillion cubic meters), according to BP, while Uzbekistan’s proved gas reserves hit 1.1 trillion cubic meters as of the beginning of 2017.
BP’s Statistical Review says that gas consumption in China increased by 7.7 percent to 210.3 billion cubic meters in 2016. The growth showered down compared to 15 percent average increase in consumption in 2005-2015.
As much as 23 percent of global primary energy consumption or 3.053 billion tons oil equivalent (toe) fell on China in 2016, including 578.7 million toe (tons of oil equivalent) of oil, 189.3 million toe of gas and almost 1.888 billion toe of coal.
