BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 6. Iran is advancing the development of the Sohrab oil field (Huwaiza in Iraq), located in the southwestern Khuzestan province along the border with Iraq, with measures to protect the Hawizeh Marshes, said Mehdi Najarian, an official at Iran’s Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), Trend reports.
Speaking at a meeting of the working group on Sohrab’s development, Najarian noted that initial plans called for drilling 20 wells in the middle section of Hawizeh Lake and constructing access roads.
However, after additional environmental measures, the project will now involve constructing 8 well pads, each designed to host multiple wells. The pads will be located along existing roads to minimize impact on the marshes.
The official added that 14 wells will be equipped with downhole pumps, and the crude oil produced will be transported to the West Karun primary processing facility. Once fully operational, the Sohrab field is expected to produce 30,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
The full development plan includes drilling 20 new wells, rehabilitating 2 existing wells, installing downhole pumps in 14 wells, laying 60 kilometers of oil pipeline, and investing a total of $800,000,000.
