BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 24. Iran's imports of passenger cars increased 12 times in value and 13 times in quantity during the six months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through September 21, 2024) compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through September 22, 2023), Iran's Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Director General of Customs Administration Mohammad Rezvanifar told reporters, Trend reports.

According to him, 22,264 passenger cars worth $439 million were imported to Iran during the six months.

Rezvanifar noted that 1,736 passenger cars worth $36.5 million were imported to the country during the same period last year.

The official added that passenger cars are imported to the country within the framework of laws and regulations and are released after issuing the necessary licenses.

“During the six months, Iran's Moin Motor Company imported 5,650 cars, Iran's SAIPA Automotive Manufacturing Company imported 5,445 cars, Bahman Motor Company imported 1,650 cars, and Kerman Motor Company imported 1,524 cars,” he said.

To note, Iran has focused on domestic production of passenger cars rather than importing them in recent years. For this reason, certain restrictions have been imposed on importing passenger cars to the country. However, due to insufficient domestic production, low quality, and safety levels, the restrictions on importing passenger cars to the country have been lifted to some extent.
