Iran’s major state-run iron ore companies, affiliated with Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), produced about 11.223 million tons of iron ore concentrate during the first quarter of the current fiscal year (March 20-June 21).
The companies’ output figure indicates a 20-percent increase compared to the preceding year, IMIDRO said in a statement July 24.
The companies produced about 38.341 million tons of iron ore concentrate in the last fiscal year (ended March 20, 2018).
Gol Gohar Iron Ore Co. ranked first, producing 4.39 million tons in the 3-month period, followed by Chadormalou with 2.202 million tons of output.
Markazi (1.377 million tons), Middle East Mines Industries Development Holding Company (1.32 million tons), Gohar Zamin (1.11 million tons), Sangan (659,392 tons) and Jalal Abad (168,172 tons) stood in the next places.
The report didn’t include the volume of iron ore produced by private sector companies, which produce a total of 14 million tons of iron ore annually.
Also 1.436 million tons of iron ore granules were produced by the aforementioned companies in the 3-month period, 22 percent less year-on-year.
Sangan was the largest iron ore granule producer with 601,663 tons of output, followed by Markazi (403,680 tons), Iranian Central Plateau Iron Ore Mines Co. (259,964 tons), Chadormalou (119,664 tons) and Mishdavan (51,140 tons).
The Islamic Republic exported $984.2 million worth of iron ore in the last fiscal year.
Iran’s total iron ore reserve stands at 5.1 billion tons, of which 2.8 billion tons are proven.
