The supply of mobile phones in Iran is higher than the demand, Secretary of Iran`s Mobile Importers Association Amir Eshaqi said, Trend reports via ILNA.
“A significant volume of mobile phones was imported into the country. The coronavirus-related closures have slowed down the supply, and now we're facing a big volume of mobile phones in the market," Eshaqi said.
Referring to the customs statistics, he said that some 15 million mobile phones were imported into Iran in the first two months of the current Iranian year (started on March 21), 'most of which have not been sold yet.'
"High volume of phones in the market created competition between suppliers, and some of them are forced to sell their goods at a loss," Eshaqi said.
Referring to the increase in mobile`s customs duty, he said that the customs duty for mobile phones has increased by 12 percent.
"Phones worth over $600 are only 5 percent of the volume of imported phones,” he said. “The increase in customs duty fee does not have much of an effect on the price of the phones in the market, while the increase in supply has not allowed prices to rise.”
