BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 18. The crude steel consumption in Iran dipped by 2.1 percent during 11 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024 through February 18, 2025) compared to the same period of last year (from March 21, 2023 through February 19, 2024).
The data obtained by Trend from the country's Steel Producers Association
shows that this metric totaled 21.3 million tons in contrast to the
11-month period of the previous year (21.8 million tons).
The utilization of steel commodities in Iran reached 17.7 million
tons in the specified reporting timeframe, reflecting a decrement
of 1.6 percent relative to the corresponding period of the previous
year (approximately 18 million tons).
In the interim, the nation exhibited a sponge iron consumption
metric of 29.8 million tons over the 11-month timeframe of the
current fiscal year, reflecting a marginal decrement of one percent
relative to the analogous period of the preceding year, which
recorded a throughput of 30 million tons.
It is pertinent to highlight that the capacity for steel production
in Iran is approximately 40 million tons annually.
